In this hypothetical situation, the information would flow from the textbook (an area with high concentrations of helpful information, low useless) to my brain (an area of high concentrations of useless information, low helpful information). So if head creates a barrier of which the useless information cannot flow, the helpful information could try to create an equilibrium by making both sides have equal helpful:useless information.
